The Mum & Baby app serves as a comprehensive resource for expectant parents, developed in collaboration with the NHS to assist users in navigating maternity care options across England.

Key features of the app include:

• Setting your due date
• Exploring maternity units in your vicinity
• Facilitating self-referral for care at your selected maternity unit
• Accessing information relevant to all stages of your maternity journey
• Creating personalized care plans for pregnancy, birth, and postpartum
• Tracking appointments and taking notes
• Utilizing local contacts and information specific to certain NHS areas
• Accessing content without the need to specify an NHS area

This application was developed through a collaborative effort involving women, their partners, families, and maternity staff from NHS trusts in North West London.

In an independent assessment by ORCHA, the Organisation for the Review of Care & Health Applications, the Mum & Baby app received a kitemark rating of 86%. This rating is notable as it is the highest achieved by any pregnancy and birth application evaluated by ORCHA, based on a rigorous review against 180 criteria.

The content within the Mum & Baby app is scheduled for quarterly reviews and updates conducted by the North West London Local Maternity System. This process involves a panel of clinicians and service users to ensure that the information remains accurate, current, and relevant.

The initial version of Mum & Baby was launched in 2014 and was spearheaded by Dr. Sunita Sharma, Lead Consultant of Postnatal Services at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The project was supported by CW+, the charity affiliated with Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (CWPLUS Registered Charity No.1169897). Subsequent expansions and updates were led by midwife project managers within the North West London ‘early adopters’ team during 2018 and 2019. The success of this initiative has been bolstered by the continued support from CW+, Imagineear, and the North West London Local Maternity System.
